Surgery:
Partial Knee Replacement
Description:
Partial removal of Arthritis and replace with metal and/or plastic parts
Alternatives:
Do Nothing; Medicines; Physical Therapy; Injections
Goals:
Relieve pain, Improve function
Hospital:
1-2 day stay, Physical Therapy, discharge to home
Therapy:
Exercises in hospital and then to an outpatient setting
Off Work:
Depends on job, approximately 4 – 6 weeks
Driving:
No driving for 1-2 weeks, then when off pain medicine and feel safe
Weight bearing:
Full weight bearing and walking in the hospital day of or after surgery
Assistive devices:
as need or up to 3 weeks
Pain Control:
Narcotic pain medicine by mouth
Swimming:
When incision has completely healed or instructed by the doctor
Dental work:
We request you have all dental procedures done prior to your surgery. You will require an antibiotic prior to any dental work for a minimum of 2 years after your surgery
Medical Clearance:
You will need medical clearance from your primary doctor and/or cardiologist prior to surgery
Traveling:
Please do not plan on traveling for a minimum of 6 weeks. Please notify Dr. Curcione if travel is considered within the first 3 months after surgery
Complications:
Anesthesia, Bleeding, Infection, Stiffness, Damage to nerve/blood vessel/ ligament, Fracture, Blood clot, Lung Clot, Medical, Failure/loosening of implant, Failure to achieve goals
